The core of CIL's business is the separation of stable isotopes and the synthesis and marketing of organic and biochemical compounds that are specifically and highly enriched with stable isotopes such as Carbon-13 (13C), Deuterium (D), Nitrogen-15 (15N), Oxygen-18 (18O) and Oxygen-17 (17O). Isotopes are forms of a particular element that vary slightly from one another in atomic weight. Isotopically labeled materials can be detected, measured, and monitored by methods such as Mass Spectrometry (Mass Spec) and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR).
Research products
As the world leader in the production of stable isotope labeled compounds, CIL offers the most complete inventory of isotopically labeled compounds available. Clinical Research
An increasing number of non-invasive medical applications utilize compounds enriched with the stable, non-radioactive isotope, Carbon-13 (13C). The metabolic probes consist of lipids, amino acids, carbohydrates, and non-pharmacological substances. These are used in clinical research to obtain critical information on in vivo enzyme activities, pharmocokinetics, and drug clearance. Typically, the labeled material is given orally and the key metabolic function is evaluated by measuring the increase of 13CO2 in the subject's exhaled breath at a specific time point or over a period of time. CIL is qualified as a cGMP manufacturer of pharmaceutical grade 13C Urea.
18O Water
CIL, the world leader in the separation of 18O and 13C isotopes for medical applications and the world's largest supplier of stable isotope labeled research compounds, is pleased to announce that the expansion of CIL's 18O separation facility, completed at the end of 2002, has increased CIL's production capacity of 18O to over 250kg per year.
With our breadth of experience and expertise in GMP/FDA medical products, CIL is very responsive to the growing needs of the PET community for consistently high quality product delivered on time at a fair price. CIL has made a significant investment in the future of 18O applications for both PET and metabolism studies of energy expenditure.
