Classics in Total Synthesis - der erste Band - ist ein ausgezeichnetes Werk, das nun mit dem zweiten Teil einen würdigen Nachfolger gefunden hat und hervorragend ergänzt wird.

In den 90er Jahren wurden weitere Naturstoffe erstmals im Labor hergestellt und - noch wichtiger - es stehen neue Synthese-Methoden zur Verfügung, um auch ältere Probleme erneut aufzurollen. Möglichkeiten wie z.B. die asymmetrische Synthese und Ringschlussmetathese wurden entscheidend weiterentwickelt und werden in der Einleitung erwähnt. Ihnen wird man später im Verlauf der konkreten Beispiele häufig begegnen.

Die ausgewählten Naturstoffe sind wiederum von generellem Interesse und ihre Synthesen werden in derselben hervorragenden Qualität wie im ersten Teil der Reihe erklärt. Somit bleibt zu wünschen, dass im Verlauf der Jahre weitere Bände erscheinen!
